Where Does the Meaning and Purpose of Life Come From?
We share our purpose with every living thing and that is to maintain our existence through metabolism, procreation collaboration, and competition. But once we get above the business of our survival, the inquiry into the purpose and meaning of existence becomes a major concern. The quest for some kind of transcendental meaning is an individual human experience. Why am I here? What is the reason for my existence? life? Why do we suffer? There appear to be three fundamental worldviews that are held by people about the human ancestry. 1. The Creationist View 2. Evolution 3. Intelligent Design The concept of Creationism refers to the idea that the Universe and everything it contains was created by a god or deities. Christianity, Judaism and Islam all have the same basic creation story but many other traditions and religions have similar stories. The New Ages are the newest version of creationism that replaces God with the idea of a higher being or spirit with an objective and oversees everything. The core problem for creationism is the requirement for a modern mind to accept unprovable mythological tenets of no proof, or to build belief on faith. Intelligent Design (ID)is a post-modern concept that has emerged as a reaction to the fundamental paradoxes in the world of science and materialism on one hand and problems with religious beliefs and religion on the other. In short, ID explores the concept that there is a greater degree of interconnectedness between everything in existence. Interest in this concept originates from the scientific field of quantum mechanics non-locality and the study of consciousness. The fundamental issue in ID is the absence of all the elements of science to make the system a reality beyond doubt. Each of these beliefs offers ways for humans to discover meaning and purpose in their lives and much time is spent debating which one is correct despite the fact there are obvious knowledge gaps in all. It doesn't matter if your faith is in mythical god, pure physical forces or an intelligent evolutionary impulse. The truth is that human beings design their own goals and meaning of their lives within their own consciousness. This involves deep thinking about your passions , and then figuring to find a way to harness your capabilities to benefit yourself and other people.
